Xanthelasma
Xanthelasma are fatty tissue deposits which are found around the eyelids and surrounding ocular area.
These deposits are a pale yellow colour and can often be found on the upper and lower eyelids of both eyes.Their occurence tends to be more common in people of an Asian and Middle Eastern origin. Their appearence can be linked to other systemic diseases such as diabetes, raised blood pressure and increased levels of cholesterol. For this reason a general health check is also recommended if they appear on the body. These benign lesions can be removed surgically or with the latest "chemical peel" procedure favoured by many cosmetic surgeons.Scar tissue can however often remain after their removal.
