Wife Surgery, my wife's eye surgery to correct her vision.

Wife surgery, not on her but her eyes. My wife Xochitl after years of wearing glasses decided to have eye surgery to correct her vision.

It was 1997, although laser eye techniques to correct vision were pretty common at that time and LASIK surgery was already being used, she underwent Radial Keratotomy procedure.

In this technique a scalpel is used to make radial cuts in the cornea at the front of the eye, a bit like bicycle spoke patterns. These cuts help flatten the front of the cornea and reduce short sight/myopia.Nowadays LASIK is the preferred procedure

The surgery was performed in Irapuato in Mexico were she was living at that time. The operation enabled her to enjoy 10 years of life without a need for glasses or contact lenses.

Skip to present day(2009) and she now finds a need to wear glasses for reading and close work.

The only side effects she noticed post operatively were problems with night vision (glare/haze) and increased light sensitivity (helped by wearing of designer sunglasses!), but overall these were a minor inconvenience.
