Wavefront technology (aberrometry) is based on the fact that the human eye is an imperfect optical device which 'scatters'the light which passes through it.
This light scattering forms distinctive individual patterns which are called wavefronts.
Using an Aberrometer the eye surgeon can measure your own personal pattern, this creates a highly accurate wavefront map of each individual eye .
This map is combined with other meaurements obtained at your
pre-op consultation
and loaded into specialist software which in turn programs a computer to accurately control the laser used in your eye surgery.
The main benefits of using wavefront/aberrometry in laser eye surgery are
-improved recovery time due to a more accurate (and hence less) removal of corneal tissue
-improved night vision
-higher level of sharp contrast vision (black on white)
Perhaps all laser eye surgery should be performed this way ?
