Red Eyes

Red eyes

In the medical science, red inflammed eyes are normally associated with disease of the eye. The symptoms of the condition include the Hyperemia of the superficial blood vessels on the conjunctiva or the sclera of the eye. Red inflammed eyes are a symptom for various diseases of the eye and the doctor needs to be consulted for proper diagnosis of the problem. The signs of eye redness can either indicate a disease that needs immediate medical attention or one that is more benign in nature. We can easily assume that the inflammation is the early warning system of the eye that tells us to go to the doctor immediately. The redness is attributed to the dilation of the blood vessels on the surface of the eye.

Some of the topmost causes of eye redness have been listed below;

1. Allergic Conjunctivitis: Infection of the Conjunctiva causes this type of red eye; it can be caused by allergic reactions, bacteria, viruses, dust etc.

2. Uveitis: Inflammation of the eye’s Uvea can cause this problem and this can lead to severe irritation of the eye. The eyes become very sensitive to light, you can see floaters and it is extremely painful. If not treated soon, it can give rise to uveitic Glaucoma or retinal scarring.

3. Dry eyes: The Lachrymal glands and various other glands help to lubricate the eye and protect its surface from getting scratched. If the tear glands do not secrete enough tear then the eye becomes dry and red.

4. Blepharitis: It is caused by a chronic infection in the eyelids and the eyelashes; the primary reason for this disease is a lack of personal hygiene. Bacterial infections, lice in the eyelids are some other reasons for this disease.

5. Subconjunctival Hemorrhage: If the blood vessels under the Conjunctiva burst due to some reason, the blood spreads out under the conjunctiva and creates a reddish tinge. This can be caused by hard sneezing, vomiting, some blood disorder etc.

6. Acute Angle-Closure Glaucoma: This is a distinct form of glaucoma that occurs in one of the eyes. It is a very serious problem and should be treated immediately.

7. Contact lens wear: People who wear contact lenses often get this kind of redness of eye, which occurs due to the friction of the eye with the lens.

8. Injury: Some mechanical injury to the eye can cause the eye to become red due to bursting of blood vessels.

Some the reasons stated above are serious and some are not so serious but the symptoms are the same. So if you ever have red inflammed eyes do not hesitate to get in touch with the doctor.
