Orbital Cellulitis Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

Orbital Cellulitis is a rare but extremely serious infection of the skin and tissues surrounding the eye.

The most common cause is form a bacterial infection such as Staphylococcus, which enters the eye cavities either from trauma to the eye region or via a sinus infection.

Symptoms of this disease which often appear extremely suddenly include eyelid and eyeball swelling, pain, inflammation of the affected area, blurred vision and quite often a general malaise/fever.

It is very important to consult a medical physician at the onset of these symptoms for further investigation.

Treatment for this cellulitis infection includes hospitalization, intravenous antibiotics and careful monitoring by a team of ophthalmologists and other medical professionals.

Complications can include permanent vision loss and other neurological infections which can cause damage to the other parts of the nervous system.
