Ocular Rosacea



Ocular Rosacea occurs in approximately 60% of patienst who suffer with teh common skin condition Acne Rosacea.

Acne Rosacea has the following symptoms:

Facial Flushing(commonly after eating spicy foods,drinking alcohol or exercise), Dry Skin,Skin pustules(typically affecting facial area).

In the ocular condition symptoms include:

Dry Eyes, Inflammed Eyelids,Burning Sensations and Redness of the eyes.



Recommended treatments include:

- avoiding spicy foods and alcohol

- increased water intake

- use of artificial tear drops for eye lubrication

- ingestion of omega 3 fish oil supplements

- antibiotics applied in form of ointments and taken as tablets

Normally a combination of these treatments will be required and as the condition is chronic it normally requires persistent application of the treatment procedures to mantain control.

Often a patient will be treated for both the general skin Rosacea as well as the Ocular version at the same time.
