Ocular Migraine

An ocular migraine occurs when an individual has the symptoms which occur with a normal migraine{Migraines occur as a result of a stimulus reaction to chemicals, stress or as a hormonal imbalance .Typically this results in a severe headache.}, but in the ocular version there is no headache present.

These symptoms, which occur due to blood flow restriction to the brain during a migraine attack, include:

Flickering shimmering lights, temporary dark blurs in vision and wavy/zig-zag lines and distortion.

When an 'attack' occurs these symptoms usually last for several minutes and sometimes for up to 15-20minutes.

This condition is harmless and will normally resolve without medical treatment. However in the event of any of the symptoms occuring, it is recommended that one should consult an eye care professional for further investigation to rule out any other causes.

If you have any further questions about this or indeed any other eye problem, please drop us a line via the form shown below.
