Macular Melanoma The melanomas that are associated with the macular region of the eyes of an individual are termed as macular eye melanomas.
These are caused because of certain cells called as the melanocytes which along with the skin are also present in other parts of the body such as eyes. Macular region melanomas are generally very rare but they are definitely lethal in nature. In fact, several people can die from these macular cancers. Amongst the other types of the eye cancers, melanomas have been generally found to be most common in existence. It has been found through current research that the melanomas of the eye are definitely much different from the melanomas of the skin and those occurring in other parts of the body. It is actually a type of intraocular cancer. The prime cause of this type of melanoma is the abnormal growth of the melanocytes of the eye and this growth is generally uncontrollable and also the associated condition along with this is the macular degeneration of the eye. Though there are different types of melanomas occurring in the eye such as Eyelid melanoma, Conjunctivital melanoma, Iris melanoma, Chroidal melanoma, Optic nerve melanoma, etc. However, this type of melanoma generally occurs in the macular part of the eye.
