Macular Edema
Macular Edema is a condition which is found to occur when the fluid and deposits collect under the macula of the eye.
The macula may be described as the yellow portion that is generally present as a yellow central area in the retina of the eye. The edema primarily results because of the leaking of the fluid from the retinal blood vessels. Blood leaks out from the weak vessel walls and goes into a smaller area of the macula leading to the formation of edema. This leads to the thickening and inflammation of the retina. This swelling can then be responsible for distorting the vision of the eye. This type of edema has also been seen to be appearing sometimes a few days or weeks after the cataract surgery. It can be successfully treated by taking NSAIDs or by taking cortisone eye drops. The type of macular swelling/edema that involves the presence of cysts is termed as Cystoid macular swelling/edema. In fact there are two types of edema, one is cystoids macular swelling/edema and the other is diabetic macular oedema. There are certain nutritional supplements that can be definitely beneficial in taking care of this condition. Some of these nutritional supplements include Serraflazyme, Fish Oil, MSM, vitamins and other nutrients which can help in the recovery from macular swelling/edema and they can thus help in preserving the vision.
