Laser Eye Surgery Procedure
Laser Eye Surgery Procedure , actually there is more than one here we give a brief outline of the principal surgical techniques used in Refarctive Correction Eye Surgery (some of which do not use a laser!)
For more details on the techniques involved with each ,simply click on the highlighted text:
Lasik
Probably the most common form of laser eye surgery which involves lifting a flap of corneal tissue and reshaping the underlying tissue to improve the focus of the eye.
Lasek
Similar to Lasik except that in this method a much thinner layer of corneal tissue is cut in making the flap, with again the underlying tissue being reshaped to improve vision
PRK
In PRK, no corneal flap is cut, instead tissue on the surface layer of the cornea is removed completely .
All laser techniques as listed above require the patient to maintain a relatively fixed eye position and to aid this many clinics operate sophisticated 'eye tracking' software to check on eye movements during surgery,if there happens to be too much movement the laser deactivates immediately ensuring a very high level of accuracy.
Monovision / CK Surgery
For older (45yrs plus) patients with good distance vision where one eye is corrected for near vision.
Ocular Implant Surgery
Not a laser technique.A lens to correct vision is placed permanently inside the cornea .
CR-3
A special non invasive corneal treatment used for patients with
Keratoconus
Intacs
Intacs another implant surgery technique primarily for Keratoconus
