Kidney Problems and Eye Symptoms
There can be instances where kidney problems and eye symptoms could be associated with each other and in such cases specific attention may be required to be paid to the eyes of the person.
The kidney problems that could lead to some complications of the eye include chronic kidney disease and end-stage renal disease. However, kidney disorders have been very rarely found to affect vision or change the anatomic integrity of the eyes. In fact at times, complaints about the vision sometimes can lead to diagnosis of a previously unsuspected kidney disease. In some of the chronic kidney disease and end stage renal disease, an ophthalmoscopic evaluation may play an important role. Retinal examination can be at times used to study the ongoing renal microvasculopathy in case both hypertensive nephropathy as well as diabetic nephropathy. Some of the common eye symptoms that may be associated with kidney problems include red eyes, metastatic calcification in the eyes, abnormal pupillary contraction on the exposure to light, etc.
