Eye Pain

Eye pain generally falls into two important categories. Pain which occurs in combination with a red eye and pain which occurs when the eye appears normal,ie:not inflammed/irritated or red.

There are a number of possible cause of a painful red eye, infection, trauma or foreign bodies are just some of the possible causes. A red eye can also occur with more serious eye conditions such as glaucoma and iritis and all cases of a painful red eye need a complete medical examination by an eye care professional to determine the cause.

If the eye is painful but otherwise normal(not red), then usually the cause is because of a visual problem such as an uncorrected spectacle prescription.Or simply because of eye strain due to excessive visual work, such as computer browsing/reading.

In the first instance a visit to the optician/optometrist can help determine what is the possible source of the pain.

Pain in the eye as with all eye problems, should not be left uninvestigated, and at the first occurence consult a registered eye care practitioner, for diagnosis and treatment.
