Eye Allergies symptoms include red itchy and watery eyes.Sometimes just one eye can be involved, but normally the condition will affect both eyes.

There are seasonal allergic eye reactions which are probably the most common, and are caused by pollen especially in the late spring and summer.

Allergies of the eye can also occur year round due to dust mites and or animal hair etc.

Contact lens wearers, especially those who do not wear daily disposable lenses and maintain good contact lens hygiene routines can also suffer allergic reactions to either their lenses / or cleaning solutions.

At the first sign of red, itchy eyes it is recommended that you consult an optometrist or other eye care professional.

Treatment consists of anti-histamine eye drops, often in conjunction with oral anti allergy medication.

More severe cases require the intervention of an ophthalmologist and the use of corticosteroid eye drugs. These steroidal drugs are only used for a small period of time as a treatment, as their prolonged use an cause more serious eye side affects such as glaucoma and cataracts.
