Diplopia is the medical name for the eye problem of double vision.

There are two basic types of double vision.

One which occurs when looking at objects with one eye (the other eye being covered) called monocular double vision.

The other form occurs as binocular double vision, whilst looking at an object with the two eyes.

The double vision can be horizontal with objects appearing side by side or vertical apperaing one on top of another.

There are a vast number of medical conditions and other causes of double vision, such as drug adverse reactions, injury and trauma. In all cases a full exmaination is required to determine the causes and the most suitable treatment procedure to follow.

In some ocassions it can be a temporary codition, for example with fatigue.
