Corneal Transplant Rejection
Corneal transplant rejection is the condition when the immune system of an individual’s body rejects the new corneal tissue which has been placed as a result of the corneal transplant.
It has been found that approximately one tenth of the people who undergo the process of corneal transplant generally face rejection in a short period of time and there are about one third of the people who suffer from the symptoms of corneal tissue transplant rejection. This is generally seen within the first five years of the surgery. It has been seen that the rejection can also occur months or even years after the process of corneal transplant. In case the transplant happens in both the eyes, then the risk of rejection further increases. Fewer problems of rejection have been seen to be associated with old people. Different symptoms of corneal tissue transplant rejection include eye redness, eye pain, irritated eyes, light-sensitive eyes, impaired vision, impaired vision, etc. There are different treatment methods and modalities involved that can take care of the corneal rejection. Some of the common modes of treatment are topical steroids which are generally used in milder cases. However, systemic steroids may be needed in case of severe cases. Sometimes it could be due to failure of the corneal graft.
