Corneal Haze

Corneal haze is basically a loss of corneal transparency. It can occur as a complication of PRK surgery to correct vision.

In PRK procedures, the outermost corneal layer the epithelum is removed using an alcohol solution, and a laser or blade is used to reshape the cornea to change the power of the eye to eliminate any visual error.

A complication that can occurs is hazing/blurring of the vision.Usually this can be treated with topical steroids. If this medication does not work, further surgery may be required to remove the parts of the cornea which have lost transparency, and hopefully as it heals the corneal tissue will be clear.

Normally these procedures, with an extra application of steroid eye drops will remove completely any further problems with hazy vision.
