CK Surgery for Presbyopia

Monovision CK Surgery (or Conductive Keratoplasty) is a NON-laser corrective vision treatment which doesn’t involve removing any tissue of any kind

Conductive Keratoplasty treats patients over 45 yrs who are presbyopic

a condition in which a person finds near vision (reading and close work ) more difficult due to the loss of close up focussing power as a result of age.(this occurs due to hardening of the crystalline lens inside the eye )

One eye is treated for good near vision. The other remaining eye is untouched(unless it needs a distance eyesight correction in which case laser eye surgery can be performed on it)leaving it to be used for good far vision

The CK surgery procedure takes only a few minutes. A small probe is placed upon the anaesthesitized eye while radio waves are delivered through a small tip in a circle of dots around the periphery of the cornea at the front of the eye.

The radio waves, makes the surface of the cornea a bit steeper and more curved which gives help to improve close up vision albeit with a small blurring of distance vision in the eye which is selected for reading.

Essentially this monovision procedure alters the shape of one eye for good near vision while at the same time not affecting your overall distance vision when using both eyes.

Occasionally Conductive Keratoplasty treatment like other forms of refractive surgery can result in visual distortion but this can usually be corrected with an enhancement operation

As people age ,quite often stronger reading glasses are needed. This means extra Conductive Keratoplasty treatment is required every 3 to 4 years to maintain the same near vision levels.

After the procedure vision is usually quite good by the next day, however it may take a few weeks for vision to stabilize and the eye to make a full recovery.
