Well for a lot of people who wear contacts, they find the process safe and completely trouble free! But research has revealed that you may stand an increased risk to a small degree only when you wear contact lenses in comparison to those that do not. When you sleep with your contacts in, this puts you at a higher risk as even though the new medical advancements have produced a very high and permeable silicone hydrogel they may still carry a risk however not as much as with the traditional extended wear contacts. If you ask your eye doctor about the following contacts: Rigid gas permeable lenses and daily disposables, they will most likely tell you that these types of lenses have a much lower infection rate thus are safer for your eyes. But obviously the maintenance of your contacts contributes mainly to whether you end up with an infection or not, so by using the cleansing solution given to your regularly and following the instructions from your optician you should stay clear from any type of eye infection
